The end of the Rugby World Cup marks the beginning of the economic assessment. And if France did not lift the Cup, its economy is the big winner of the event. Cafes, restaurants, hotels… Establishments welcoming fans of the oval ball are rubbing their hands.

A week following the end of the Rugby World Cup, it is time to take stock for the tourism sector. And with nearly 2.5 million spectators, including 600,000 foreigners, cafes, restaurants and hotels are rubbing their hands. It must be said that the entire French economy benefited from the event and these thousands of additional tourists.

The hotel industry, the big winner of the event

“We saw an increase of 6.3% in retail activity,” during the event, Gabriel Destremaut, head of public relations for Sumup, a terminal company, said at the Europe 1 microphone. of payment.

“The rugby fans had fun, they still made the most of the festivities,” he continues. The hotel industry is the sector that has fared the best. In Ile-de-France, its business volume has completely doubled. Very good results which can be partly explained by the logic of supply and demand. And some hoteliers did not hesitate to increase their prices. An increase of up to 8% according to Jean-Marc Banquet d’Orx, hotel representative.

A good omen for the Olympic Games?

“Overall, all the hoteliers that I was able to contact are very satisfied with this World Cup operation. As a result, the turnover is above that of last year,” explains Jean-Marc Banquet of Orx. In total, the Rugby World Cup brought in nearly two billion euros in turnover.

A transformed test a few months before the Paris Olympic Games.
