The director of a high security prison in Guatemalalocated inside a barracks, was shot dead this Saturday (11/04/2023) by an unknown person, according to various official sources.
The armed attack took place this Saturday morning on a street in the center of Guatemala City, as a result of which Edwin David Patzán González, 32, lost his life, according to the relief forces.
Patzán González was the director of the Matamoros prison, located in the military barracks of the same name, located in the center of the capital of the Central American country. The Ministry of the Interior (Interior), in charge of the Penitentiary System, expressed its regret and condolences for the death of the official, allegedly at the hands of a single hitman.
The Municipal Fire Department detailed that Patzán González received “several” gunshot wounds and that, despite being transferred to a nearby hospital, he died due to the severity of his injuries.
