ISTANBUL, Nov. 4, 2023 (Xinhua) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that Turkey is moving forward on the path to having a fast-growing market for electric cars following launching the first locally produced electric car “TUG” last year.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony of an automobile factory in the northwestern province of Kocaeli, Erdogan said that there will be intense competition between current electric car companies and the arrival of new representatives in the market.
He added, “Our goal is to make our country one of the world’s leading players in the production of electric cars and batteries.”
The Turkish President noted that the government attached special importance to investments that would enable Turkey to have a voice in the electric car market, as “interest in electric cars is increasing in our country, as is the case in the whole world.”
About 22,900 electric vehicles were sold from January to August this year in Turkey, according to Automotive and Mobility Distributors Association data published in September. /end of news/
