WTT Champions Frankfurt (October 29, 2023 – November 5, 2023 / Germany) On November 4, in the women’s singles semifinals, Hina Hayata (23 = Nippon Life Insurance / 4th place in the world ranking) defeated Wang Manyuan (24 = China / 3rd place in the world ranking) ) lost by a game count of 1-4.
Wang is a 176cm tall player who won both the 2021 World Table Tennis Championships and the Asian Championship in September 2023. Although Wang and Hayata are of the same generation, it was surprisingly their first time competing in an international tournament.
First, Hayata took an 8-3 lead with a sharp quick attack from the front, but in response, he conceded 8 consecutive points to Oh, who created his own development with a tough serve, giving him the lead in the first game.
Against Hayata, whose receptions might not be kept low, Oh threw a hard ball that seemed to gouge the middle. They conceded every point in the rally and lost the second game 2-11.

In the third game, Hayata attacked with his specialty forehand, forcing Oh into a block and taking a 7-3 lead. But then Wang was concerned regarding his left foot and went into a medical timeout. He received first aid and returned to the court, but Hayata remained unfazed and won the match 11-8.
King doesn’t use footwork, probably due to the effects of his injury. However, the precision of the technique was still intact, and Hayata was moved by the situation. He tried to catch up with the forehand, but mightn’t reach it, and the fourth game was taken at 8-11.
Hayata struggled in the fifth game as he was attacked from both sides. In the end, he was hit with a straight backhand counter and lost 7-11.
Hayata, who remained until the end, was defeated, and this top four was the best result for the Japanese team. Furthermore, Mima Ito (Startz) and Tomokazu Harimoto (Tomokazu Kikaku) are in the top eight.
