Warriors’ Strong Start to 2023-24 Season Signals a Return to Championship Form

By winning in a landslide over Oklahoma City last night, the Warriors confirmed their solid start to the season. A start to the season which contrasts with that of last year, obviously marked by the Draymond Green – Jordan Poole episode. Enough to definitely move on in the eyes of Steve Kerr.

Five victories in six matches, the last two won in the dying seconds, and above all a perfect record of 4-0 on the road.

No doubt, the 2023-24 Warriors are off to a better start than last season. Remember that Golden State lost seven of its first ten games last year, including six defeats in as many trips. With this successful start, some San Francisco Bay journalists like to push the comparison between these two versions of the Warriors. But coach Steve Kerr decided to put a big stop (via NBC Sports Bay Area).

“We have to put last season behind us. We have a full decade of experience when it comes to closing out games, winning close matches and winning titles. It’s no coincidence that these guys have raised banners and have championship rings. They are good at that.

Last year was the exception that proves the rule.”

After the potato inflicted by Draymond Green on Jordan Poole, uneasiness had very clearly set in among the Warriors. And he never really left the Golden State team, struggling on the road throughout the year (11-30 away record over the entire season) and only in the middle of the table at defensive efficiency. Very representative signs of a team lacking cohesion.

This season, we have the impression of finding a more united and more balanced Warriors formation (sixth in attack, very close to the Top 10 in defense), which looks a little more like the versions which allowed Golden State to reach the summits over the last decade. We will now see if it will last all year and if it will be enough to compete with the best teams in the West once the Playoffs show up.
