Yehuda Becher, 24, was murdered by Hamas terrorists at the Supernova electronic music festival on October 7.

Becher grew up in an ultra-Orthodox family in Betar Illit but chose to leave the community when he became a young adult.

A video of Becher singing in his car, filmed a few days before his death, created a buzz. In these images, which were shared by his friend Gideon Igra, Becher sings with emotion the traditional morning prayer of Elohai Neshama, which will have taken on a whole new meaning in the wake of his tragic death: “The soul that you put in me is pure – You created it, you formed it, you breathed it into me and you preserve it in me. You will take it back from me.”

Igra said Becher was “a sincere young man, a profoundly kind soul whose gaze sought all the beauty in the world.”

His brother, Ori Becher, said Yehuda had “brilliance, charisma and a huge heart… My little brother, I love you so much. I can’t accept the fact that we won’t spend our whole lives together.”

Yehuda’s father, Rabbi Yitzhak Becher, thanked God at his funeral “for the privilege of being Yehuda’s father for 24 years.”

His friends remembered a young man full of joie de vivre in a tribute that was shared by the municipality of Beit Shemesh, where the deceased’s father lived.

“Yehuda brought happiness to the lives of those around him and he had a contagious zest for life,” they wrote. “His dreams and aspirations for the future were a source of inspiration to all who knew him and are a testament to his resolute spirit. He envisioned a future full of possibilities, and he motivated others to dream big.”
