RMEISH, Lebanon (AP) — Israeli planes attacked the border with Lebanon on Saturday, while the Hezbollah militia attacked several Israeli military posts, hitting one with two powerful rockets.
Hezbollah said in a statement that its fighters attacked at least six Israeli posts along the border, using “rocket and appropriate weapons.” He added that “direct targets were hit and technical equipment was destroyed.”
Beirut’s Al-Mayadeen television reported that Hezbollah fired two Burkan rockets, capable of carrying heavy warheads, at an Israeli outpost known in Lebanon as Jal al-Allam. A Lebanese security official confirmed that Burkan rockets were used for the first time.
The rockets, whose name means “volcano” in Arabic, were previously used by Hezbollah and Syrian government forces to destroy fortifications of Syrian opposition fighters.
Heavily armed Hezbollah has several types of rockets and missiles in its arsenal.
Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television said the militants shot down an Israeli spy balloon over the village of Misgaf Am.
On the outskirts of the village of Rmeish, in a rugged area of the border, an Israeli airstrike caused a thick cloud of smoke. In the distance the noise of cannons might be heard.
Lebanese state news agency NNA reported airstrikes around Labbouneh, Hibarieh and other border villages.
Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee wrote on the social network
Shootings have increased along the Lebanese-Israeli border since the Hamas militia incursion that left more than 1,400 dead in southern Israel.
Since then, Israel has launched an air and ground operation once morest Gaza that has caused more than 9,000 deaths, mainly civilians, in the enclave, according to Palestinian health officials.
