An emblematic place on the Plateau de Herve, the Ferme de José, has recently been on sale. The property is made up of a house and four reception rooms, a large car park and agricultural land, on just over one hectare (with 324 m2 of living space and 134 m2 of cellars, attics, etc. .).

Owners want change. “We’ve looked around, we’ll say. We’ll launch the ad and we’ll see. If it works, it works, and if not, we’ll continue: in any case, we’re full for the whole of 2024! We’ll have to at least a year before being able to have the building, unless we come across a caterer who might suddenly take over everything”, slips Jean Havart, from the transport company of the same name, established in Micheroux, who manages the establishment with his partner.

This 18th century building has been in the family for 37 years. “I was looking for a house to live in and my father, who was going through a limited company with the notary, saw this farm in the waiting room. We went to see it, we looked at what we might do with and, six months later, I got married in the hall which had been transformed into a banquet hall. I was the first groom in that hall!”

Many marriages

The building was subsequently converted to include up to four rustic-style rooms, with their beams and exposed masonry, which can accommodate 30 to 250 people: the Nanesse (220 m2), Tchantchès (280 m2), Chevalier (210 m2) and Charlemagne (125 m2). “We improved the building, we made concrete to make terraces, we re-tiled everything inside, we put in air conditioning…”

In 37 years, José’s Farm has seen many festive events take place and the place has symbolic importance for many inhabitants of the Verviers region.

“It’s true that when talking with people, there are many who tell us: oh, I got married at your house thirty years ago, etc. There are 52 weekends in a year; we will say that around thirty are weddings, and the rest are birthdays, communions… family celebrations.”

The future buyer might decide to change its use, but the place will therefore continue to host happy events throughout the year 2024 at least.
