Vienna (OTS) – On November 6th and 7th, 2023, convoys of vehicles, some of them armored, will travel to Salzburg and from there to Bludesch to the Walgau barracks in Vorarlberg. Due to the approximately 150 federal military vehicles, there may occasionally be traffic disruptions.
Under the title “Walgau 2023”, around 800 soldiers from all over Austria will be training for missions from November 6th to 10th, 2023 – from terror attacks to arson attacks. Helicopters, wheeled tanks and drones are also in practice.
Convoys of vehicles through Austria
On November 6th, longer columns of vehicles from Mistelbach, Korneuburg and Mautern in Lower Austria and Styria from Strass and St. Michael will drive to the Schwarzenberg barracks in Salzburg. A single column consists of around ten vehicles. The main routes of the vehicle convoys are on the A1 and the A9 towards Salzburg. There are no tracked vehicles in the columns. Individual vehicles from other federal states reach Salzburg without hindering traffic.
On November 7th, the training troops moved from Salzburg via the Deutsches Eck via Rosenheim, Kufstein, Innsbruck through the Arlberg tunnel to the destination in Bludesch in the Walgau barracks in Vorarlberg. On the other hand, several marching columns drove from Salzburg via Munich, Memmingen, Lindau to the Walgau barracks in Bludesch.
After the end of the exercise on November 10, 2023, the troops will move back to their home garrisons by train. This does not cause any traffic disruptions.
