Wanderings under the stars is a series of photographs taken at night in Aubrac and the Cévennes and printed on aluminum “in order to bring depth and better rendering to the photos. The process allows the colors not to alter in time”, explains Geneviève Mestre, the next guest to exhibit at the media library.
An amateur photographer for many years, it was on his 50th birthday that his children gave him his first digital camera. When retirement came, she reconnected with her passion following a meeting with Carole Reboul, photographer specializing in macro photography and nocturnal landscapes.
With the latter, she went into the field and trained in astrophotography. “And I fell in love when I discovered this practice. Because at night the landscapes are highlighted more by the Milky Way, detached into silhouettes. We are so small in front of the immensity of the sky!”, says Genevière Mestre.
“The Cévennes sky is pure”
“In our region, the Milky Way appears with its bulb from May to September. This is the best period to photograph it in its entirety. The Cévennes sky is pure because there is little light pollution. I am contemplative in front of so many beauty! And contrary to what one might think, we are never alone at night, nightlife is present”, confides the photographer, always ready to take out the tripod to install her camera. It’s quite an organization, because the Milky Way “must be photographed without a Moon and without clouds with a fairly long pause.”
Member of the Baillargues photo club, Geneviève Mestre regularly participates in the competition organized by the French Federation of Photography which offers a monthly theme to participants. The public can come and discover his photos from November 8 to 25 (opening Thursday 9 at 6 p.m.). A meeting is also planned for November 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a group from the L’Oustalado life center.
