The Chamber of Appeals and Guarantees of San Isidro resolved bring to trial the eight defendants in the case initiated by the death of Diego Maradonawho passed away in November 2020.

The crime of simple homicide with possible intent provides for a penalty of between 8 and 25 years in prison.

Maradona’s children, Dalma, Giannina, Jana, Diego Fernando and Diego Junior, They decided to turn to Justice, due to the irregularities surrounding the death of the soccer star, whose care in the last stage of his life was supervised by Luque, his lawyer, and the medical team that he had appointed.

Maradona died at the age of 60 on November 25, 2020 and the autopsy determined that his death occurred as a result of a “Acute pulmonary edema secondary to exacerbated chronic heart failure.” It was also discovered that he had a “dilated cardiomyopathy”.

The former player, who also suffered from alcohol addiction problems, had been admitted to a clinic in the city of La Plata on November 2, 2020, due to anemia and dehydration, and a day later he was transferred to a sanatorium in the Buenos Aires town of Olivos, where he underwent surgery for a subdural hematoma. On November 11 of that same year he was discharged and he was moved to a house in a private neighborhood of Tigre, where he died two weeks later.

At the time of Maradona’s death he was coaching Gimnasia de La Plata, where he had assumed his position in September 2019.
