Duos mode will arrive next year in Battlegrounds. Blizzard presents this in more detail in an article published just now on the official website.
The inn is buzzing with all the new features announced for Hearthstone at BlizzCon. From the opening ceremony to the conference “What’s new in Hearthstone ? “, we can say that the day was busy. But it is especially the battlefields that are impatient following the announcement of a brand new way of playing, which will be deployed next year: Battleground Duos!
What are Battleground Duos?
This is a new way to play that will be incorporated into Battlegrounds mode next year. Duos allow you to team up with a partner, share life points and trade cards to defeat your opponents in intense team battles. Jump in with a friend or join the fight solo and find a partner; the doors of the hostel will always be open.
Today we announced the arrival of Duos for next year, and took the opportunity to share a preview of this game mode. If you were too busy discovering the demo to watch the “What’s new in Hearthstone ? » live, don’t miss the rebroadcast of the event on our YouTube channel and discover what Mitchell Loewen, lead designer of the battlefields and Jia Dee, associate designer, revealed regarding this new mode.
Explore new synergies with special heroes and minions
Battleground Duos feature heroes and minions exclusive to this game mode, cards designed to generate specific synergies, such as those that grant a bonus to your partner or reward teamwork.
Battleground Duos are under development, details subject to change.
Shared hit points and combat
The principle inherent in Duos is to work as a team with your partner. Each game includes 4 teams of 2 players, with life points shared within each team. The combat is sequential: the war troop of one of the partners begins the combat until both opponents are eliminated (or they gain the upper hand!) If the first teammate is defeated, the war troop of the second takes over to finish the fight. If the first player manages to eliminate both opponents, the second teammate’s war troop intervenes to add a layer of damage to the opposing team! It’s not obligatory to encourage your partner, but it can’t hurt.
Pings and map sharing
The key to success when working as a team is good communication and taking into account the needs of others. And to get there, there’s nothing like a portal that connects you to your partner: you just have to click on it to go from their board to yours. What’s more, for the sum of 1 gold coin, you can send cards from your hand through the portal to give them to your partner!
Duos also have a ping system that allows you to mark items for your partner, for example you can point out an item from your store that might be useful to them, or mark one of their items that interests you.
Pings are a great way to quickly get your partner’s attention or communicate with someone who isn’t on your contact list or doesn’t speak the same language! We can’t wait to see friendships formed and new ways to play revealed with Duos!
Play the demo at BlizzCon or watch creator streams
You can play the demo version of Battlegrounds Duos right now if you’re at BlizzCon! Take your friends or meet someone there and forge a new friendship in the heat of the moment.
If you weren’t able to make it there this year, you can watch your favorite streamers team up or compete in the Duets rooms. Watch the broadcasts on their respective channels at the following times during tomorrow’s event:
Saturday: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific Time (7 p.m. to 10 p.m. CST)
Saturday, 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time (10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. CST)
Battleground Duos are coming next year!
That will be all for now! As we continue to develop and refine Duos in preparation for deployment next year, we’d love to hear what you think and what you want to see. We will obviously have more information to share closer to launch, so stay tuned!
