Oman and Nepal Advance to ICC Men’s Twenty20 Cricket World Cup Championship

Kirtipur: Oman and Nepal set the stage for next year’s ICC Men’s Twenty20 Cricket World Cup. Both the teams achieved the feat by entering the finals in the Asian qualifying round.

Oman defeated Bahrain by 10 wickets in the semi-final, while Nepal ended the challenge of UAE by eight wickets. This is Nepal’s first appearance in the final round of the 2014 World Cup.

Batting first once morest Oman, Bahrain scored 106 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Imran Ali 30 off 23 balls, Sarfaraz Ali (23) and Ahmar Bin Nisar (26 not out) were the only ones to shine in the Bahrain line-up. Aquib Ilyas, who conceded only 10 runs in the four overs, took four wickets and helped Oman keep the opponents to a low score. Chasing a small target, Oman crossed the target with six overs to spare without losing a single wicket. Openers Kashyap Prajapati (57 runs off 44 balls and Prateek Athavale 50 runs off 42 balls.

It was the spinners who made Nepal win once morest UAE. Kushal Malla and Sandeep Lamichane’s brilliant bowling helped UAE 134 runs for nine wickets. Vrithya Aravind became the top scorer with 64 runs off 51 balls. In reply, Nepal reached the target with the loss of just two wickets thanks to Asif Sheikh (64 not out in 51 balls), Gulsan Jha (22 in 24 balls) and captain Rohit Paudel (34 not out in 20 balls). Nepal won with 17 balls to spare. Next year’s T20 World Cup will be held in West Indies and USA. So far 18 teams have qualified for the final round. The lineup will be complete with the arrival of two more teams as African representatives.
