The most famous actress in French cinema lends her voice to the third part of the audio series “Marvel’s Wastelanders”, which will be available on November 8 to Audible subscribers. Opposite Stéfi Celma (“Ten Percent”), she plays Helen Black, aka Black Widow.

The star admits that she is not an aficionado of the Marvel universe. “Frankly, I didn’t know the character that much!”, she smiles.

“I have seen images but I have never seen an entire film,” continues Catherine Deneuve. But recording this podcast, “it amused me, (…) there was a freedom there all the same”.

“It’s a little confusing for an actress because you’re standing like that, with desks and this text. It’s very special.” Playing without a camera, “we free ourselves, it’s a certain freedom, we don’t concentrate in the same way at all,” she continues.

Star advice: in front of a microphone, you have to remain “very alive”, “so that it is not very obvious, that it seems to come out for the first time”.

“Working on your voice can be done for those who do theater or singers, for a question of gymnastics in relation to the vocal cords. But (for an actor) you should definitely not work on your voice, because it is artificial,” she explains.

“I still have my voice, it hasn’t really changed much,” notes the actress: “I’m always very surprised that even strangers on the phone recognize my voice right away.”
