Since October 30, the inhabitants of Tarn have been wondering if they are wrong! Several entrance signs to different towns in the department were turned over by a mysterious commando. Gaillac, Castres, Cadalen, Mazamet, Labessière-Cadeil and even Teuillet were thus reversed, raising questions from residents.

Thursday, November 2, the mystery was lifted on Facebook with the publication of a post from the Departmental Federation of Farmers’ Unions of Tarn (FDSEA 81) and the Young Farmers of Tarn (JA 81), admitting to being at origin of this “returned panels” operation which made the rounds on social networks.

“We are walking on our heads when it comes to state decisions”

“Our observation is that we are walking on our heads when it comes to state decisions regarding farmers,” underlines Cédric Vaute, secretary general of the FDSEA du Tarn. We are asked for everything and its opposite, hence the idea of turning the panels upside down. For example, we are asked for more and more standards and taxes while we advocate food sovereignty by producing more, French and better quality. It’s the same thing with the Estates General of Food which defends the guarantee of decent prices for farmers but these commitments are called into question by large retailers. » Only the town entrance sign in French was turned over to challenge the public authorities, those in Occitan were not affected.

Last September, signs for towns in Tarn had already been reversed with towns in Haute-Garonne: Mazamet had become Toulouse, Noailhac was called Mazamet or Gaillac had been changed to Noailhac. Tarn farmers were not at the origin of this previous operation. The gang of traveling signs has still not been identified.
