For many travelers, attending a concert in Schönbrunn is an absolute must during their Vienna vacation. This tradition began in 1997. Now the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra celebrated its 9,000th anniversary performance in the palace’s orangery with music by Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The orchestra is made up of well-known musicians from Vienna. It specializes primarily in works by Mozart, Strauss and their contemporaries. In addition to the regular concerts in the Orangery, the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra is also celebrated internationally as Austria’s calling card – to this day in Japan, China, Russia, the USA, Brazil, Greece, Croatia, Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Bulgaria, among others , Italy, Spain and the Scandinavian countries.
Anniversary concert on Strauss’s birthday
Orchestra founder Peter Hosek continued to celebrate with the musicians, his team, numerous guests of honor and the audience. “It is a special privilege to be able to play so many concerts in this historic location, where the famous competition between WAMozart and A. Salieri took place in 1786. What makes the anniversary even more outstanding is the fact that our 9,000th concert happens to coincide with Johann Strauss’ 198th birthday,” explains Hosek.
