In 2014, Neil Trotter bought a property with a large lake in Ottawa for himself and his partner Nikki. It was their wish for a long time.
The house sits on a 500-acre estate in southern England. It is a three bedroom house. This is where they live. The estate has at least six lakes and many small ponds. However, the house needs extensive renovations. Also, there is a lot of work to be completed in the estate. In spite of this, many times the couple had to leave here for some time. The first winter following the estate was bought, there was a flood in the western part of the place.

Trotter, who previously worked as a car mechanic, said the estate has at times felt more than he might handle. He always dreamed of owning a lake. However, he added that owning such a large land is a big challenge and responsibility.
”I gained valuable insight into how to manage forest land. It’s been nine years now. But today I am very proud of what I have achieved. I am active full time. “Never got bored,” Trotter said.
Ottawa initially tried to dissuade Trotter from acquiring the property. Trotter worked hard over the past nine years to bring the land to its current form. It was a place full of fallen trees. He removed them all. Many ponds were dug here and lakes were constructed. He said that through hard work, he was able to bring the animals back to the estate and felt it was a very happy thing. A lot of hedge plants were planted to provide food for the birds in winter. Today it is also home to various species of birds, two species of deer and small mammals.
