The investigations which followed this terrorist act highlighted the loss of the extradition file for the attacker, Abdesalem Lassoued, by the Brussels prosecutor’s office. Asked regarding the failings of the prosecution, Michel Claise declared: “What do I see? As a reminder, on August 15, 2022, Tunisia requested the extradition of Abdessalem Lassoued. But this request, transmitted on September 1, 2022 by the FPS Justice to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, was not processed. The competent magistrate did not respond to this extradition request. A case which led to the resignation of Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne last October.
