Hokuriku: Stormy weather from 6th to 7th following the 3-day holiday due to rapidly developing low pressure Ishikawa city is on alert for high waves
November 03, 2023 16:46
The Hokuriku region on November 3rd (Friday/holiday) was unseasonably hot in many parts of the country. The weather from the 4th to the 5th will change in short cycles, and the 6th to 7th, following the three-day holiday, is expected to be stormy due to the effects of a rapidly developing low pressure system. Please be wary of strong winds from the south, heavy rain for a short period of time, and high waves at sea, especially in Ishikawa.
On the 3rd, warm air moves north with high temperatures in the south and low temperatures in the north. Temperatures rise with plenty of sunshine and wind.
Today, the atmospheric pressure distribution was high in the south and low in the north, with high pressure in the south and low pressure in the north, with a front moving forward, and the Hokuriku region was covered in high pressure from the south. During the day, the temperature rose due to plenty of sunshine, unseasonably warm air, and the effect of the Foehn phenomenon, which causes temperatures to rise in the lee of mountain air currents. The highest temperature in each region was 28 degrees 1 minute in Itoigawa (Niigata), which was the highest in November’s record, Toyama’s temperature was 28 degrees, 5 minutes, which was second highest in November, and Kanazawa’s temperature was 27 degrees, 7 minutes, which was the highest in November. It was unseasonably hot, reaching the second highest temperature on record. On the other hand, the daily minimum humidity was 20% in Toyama and 22% in Kanazawa, making it a hot and dry day.
There will be strong winds on the 6th, near midsummer, so be careful of strong winds from the south.
On the 4th, it will be sunny at first, but the weather will gradually turn downhill and it will rain mainly in the followingnoon. However, the weather will improve quickly, and the sun is expected to return mainly in the followingnoon on the 5th.
After the three-day holiday period ends, a low pressure system accompanied by a front is expected to rapidly develop and move northeast toward Primorye on the 6th. Warm air will flow into the low pressure system from the south. The expected temperature range at an altitude of regarding 1,500 meters is between 12 degrees and 18 degrees, but even warmer air is expected to flow in at around 16 degrees, which is even stronger than on the 3rd. A strong Fohn phenomenon is also expected to occur, where airflow from the south causes temperatures to rise in the leeward direction, and the weather will gradually take a downhill stage, but there is also a tendency for rain to start falling later, and the period of clear skies will be longer than expected. If that happens, there is a possibility that it will be midsummer in places like Toyama.
Also, as predicted in the surface weather map shown at the top, the isobar lines are narrowly spaced, and winds from the south are expected to strengthen in many places. Wind is easily affected by topography, and there is a risk of localized storms in areas where the wind passes, such as areas along rivers that run north-south. There is a possibility of damage such as broken tree branches, damage to crops, and damage to greenhouses, so please take the necessary measures in advance.
Be careful of heavy rain and thunderstorms around the 7th. Be careful of high waves at sea, especially around Ishikawa.
On the 7th, a cold front extending from a low pressure system is expected to pass through the Hokuriku region. Warm and humid air similar to that of early autumn will flow toward low pressure systems and fronts, making atmospheric conditions extremely unstable in the Hokuriku region. There is a possibility of short-term heavy rain such as heavy rain or thunderstorms mainly during the time when the front passes. Please be careful regarding how it rains.
In addition, at sea, there is a risk of high waves with swells moving from the west, mainly in Ishikawa Prefecture, so please be very careful.
