The Malichita brand cantaloupe melon variety is being recalled due to the presence of Salmonella bacteria.

“The affected product is being recalled from the market because this product may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria,” said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The cantaloupes covered by this recall were sold between October 22 and November 1 inclusive in several Quebec markets.

The federal agency indicates that this fruit and products subject to recall due to microbial contamination should not be consumed, sold, served or distributed.

They must be thrown away or returned to the place where they were purchased, said the federal agency, according to which products contaminated with Salmonella bacteria can make you sick.

The products affected by the recall were sold in Quebec and the Maritimes, and may have been distributed elsewhere in other provinces and territories.

“Salmonellosis can cause long-term complications, including a serious form of arthritis,” it was also warned.
