The suspect was arrested shortly following the events, then he was charged by an investigating judge with theft with violence or threat, with break-in, at night and with a weapon, as well as rape and carrying a weapon by destination.

A woman was awakened from her sleep on Wednesday around 5:30 a.m. by a noise inside her home on rue du Marronnier in Brussels. She came face to face with a burglar and was alone at the time of the incident. The individual entered the home by breaking a window.

He was very aggressive and threatened, beat and raped the victim before ransacking the home and stealing a number of items. When he finally left the house, the victim called the police herself.

Around 8 a.m., police arrested a suspect. He was in possession of various objects which belonged to the victim.

The Brussels public prosecutor’s office was informed and a deputy prosecutor ordered the first investigative duties, namely the establishment of a security perimeter, the viewing of images from video surveillance cameras, the intervention of the laboratory of the federal judicial police and the hearing of the victim and the suspect.

He then appointed an investigating judge. The latter charged the alleged perpetrator with theft with violence or threat, with break-in, at night and with a weapon, as well as rape and carrying a weapon by destination. He also placed him under arrest warrant.
