Last year, insurers caught more than ten thousand people attempting to commit fraud. By doing so, they say they have prevented more than 80 million euros in fraud.
Both the number of detected fraud cases and the amount of fraud are smaller than the year before, reports the Dutch Association of Insurers. It is also smaller than in 2020. According to the researchers, the decrease is not yet sufficient to say that there is a turnaround.
Last year’s ten thousand fraud cases mean that just under one in a thousand claims involves fraud.
The figures also show that almost a quarter fewer fraudsters were recorded in the central register last year than in the previous year. Insurers use this register to alert each other to insured parties who do not comply with the rules.
