Affordable e-bikes do exist on the market, and fortunately some of them have very good value for money. This is the case of the NCM C5, rated 9/10 in our lines, which is currently offered at 659 euros instead of 1,099 euros at Cdiscount and Fnac.

It’s a fact: to get a good electric bike, it’s better to have a substantial budget. However, it is possible to equip yourself at a lower cost, by making a few concessions, obviously. The NCM C5, an entry-level model, is for example one of these inexpensive bikes. But despite its low price, it still received an excellent score of 9/10 during our test as well as third place in our top e-bikes, thanks to its many positive points. The good news is that it’s even cheaper than usual thanks to a reduction of 440 euros.

The advantages of the NCM C5

A successful design A very efficient torque of 50 Nm Excellent autonomy

First offered at 1,099 euros, the NCM C5 electric bike is now available at 659 euros at Cdiscount and to Fnac. You should also know that you can access state aid to reduce the bill even further.

A successful design that compensates for small flaws

Generally, entry-level e-bikes have rather conventional and really unattractive designs. The NCM C5 is fortunately one of the exceptions to the rule with a successful sporty style, despite a rather messy set of cables. Be careful, however: its high frame is not necessarily suitable for everyone. Overall, the NCM C5 doesn’t feel entry-level at all.

The NCM C5 unfortunately doesn’t shine as much in terms of comfort, since it lacks a suspended seat post and front suspension. Beware of the cobblestones, therefore, and the various vibrations that your back will not appreciate. Fortunately, the little rough edges won’t be felt as much. Note also that the VAE is not equipped with mudguards, which is difficult to understand today even at this price. The crutch and the bell are, however, present.

Good dynamism and excellent endurance

Concerning driving, first of all remember that the design of the NCM C5 requires you to adopt a hunched position, which might not suit some, but which can also make driving much more dynamic. Note especially the presence of a torque sensor, which is usually found on much more expensive models, and which offers more natural and dynamic driving. This torque sensor is associated with the 250 W Das Kit motor, with a generous torque of 50 Nm. The latter is very efficient and 25 km/h is reached quickly. But once this speed is reached, the system may have difficulty maintaining this pace. On the braking side, we are entitled to Tektro pad brakes, very satisfactory on dry ground, less so on wet ground.

Finally, the autonomy of the NCM C5 is perhaps its real major asset, as it is excellent. In our test, the bike was able to last for 75 km before its battery was completely depleted. A distance to be refined according to the weight of the user, the slopes or even the weather, of course. On the recharge side, 100% will be reached in 6 hours.
