French growth is slowing down. In the third quarter, GDP increased by a small 0.1% in France as expected by economic forecasters, notably under the effect of the poor performance of foreign trade, indicated this Tuesday INSEE which revised to the increase in activity growth in the second quarter to +0.6%. The 1% growth objective planned by the government for the whole year should nevertheless be achieved.

But the equation in 2024 already promises to be more complicated, even if the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire welcomes “a French activity that is holding up”. The year should start with weak growth, estimated at 0.3% by INSEE (subject to an increase in GDP of 0.2% in the fourth quarter). Cautious economists on average forecast an increase in GDP of 0.8% next year.
