A Needle this week presented a new External SSD. This is the SE920a model that comes with some interesting highlights, in addition to the fact that it is the first product in the category made by the company with USB4 and which had been the topic for just over 2 years.

Even so, this is the official arrival of the item on the market, with transfer speeds that can reach 3,800 MB/s. In other words, this attribute means that the SSD can rival the brand’s best rivals currently available on the market. It even comes with a small fan to dissipate heat.

USB Type-C technology is the most recent launched and the computer or notebook must be compatible with it in order to extract the full potential that the product has to offer in general. Even so, it can also be used with previous generations of USB, such as 3.2 and 2.0.

Naturally, using SSD with previous technologies will reduce the speeds the product can achieve. The promised value of 3,800 MB/s is for reading, but it does not disappoint when it comes to writing as well, offering up to 3,700 MB/s. It is 40% faster compared to the Sabrent Rocket Nano XTRM.

Regarding system compatibility, the SE920 can be used with Windows 10 and 11, MacOS 13 or higher, Linux with Kernel 6 or higher and Android 13 or higher. Likewise, it is compatible with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S. In a real scenario, it would be possible to transfer a 4K video weighing 10GB in three seconds.

Availability and price

The External SSD was expected to be available for purchase at this point, but it has not yet been found in stores in the United States. Therefore, more details may be revealed soon. Finally, also see details regarding the SSD Legend 970 and the model launched by Seagate for portable consoles.
