The family announced this on Wednesday evening. “Tonight our senior partner Klaus Hippmann, known and loved by many as ‘Mr. Hippmann’, passed away peacefully in his sleep,” said the relatives in a touching Facebook post. “Now he is dancing with the angels and is certainly happy when his beloved dance students stop for a moment and remember a funny or educational moment with him,” it continues. It was not yet known when the farewell would take place.
Klaus Hippmann ran the renowned Wels dance school with his wife Christine for 36 years before his sons Jörg and Christoph and their wives Claudia and Carina took over the helm in 2015. The state-certified dance teacher with Tyrolean roots earned his living in the financial business for 32 years following graduating from HAK. In 1994 he threw in the towel at Oberbank as branch manager in Lichtenegg to join the dance school, which was then run by his wife Christine.
It all started much earlier: in 1967, the 23-year-old founded the Grün-Rot Wels dance sports club with Roland Töpfer. While dancing, Hippmann met and fell in love with his wife, a kindergarten teacher. The couple began dancing competitively and won many prizes until the mid-1970s before completing state dance teacher training.
When the Hippmanns founded their dance school in Wels in the fall of 1979, they already had a clear philosophy: not only to teach dance as well as possible, but also humorously and easily. They succeeded. Thousands of young Welsers took their first steps on the parquet in the halls at Kaiser-Josef-Platz and, since 2019, in the Gerstl-Haus. “He made many people happy with his laugh, and we will always remember him with a smile,” said the mourning family on Wednesday.
