It’s no secret that keeping a video game’s servers online takes time, resources and money. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see them deactivated following several years of activity. Many players in the industry have already had to face this sad reality and Ubisoft is no exception.

Online services for 10 Ubisoft games to be cut

To tell the truth, the studio is even a regular at this exercise, with the developer frequently carrying out this type of maneuver. If one of its last actions in the field concerned Xbox 360 games, the French company has decided to carry out a new cleaning shortly.

Starting January 25, 2023, the online services of 10 older Ubisoft titles will be closed. All these games are now more than 10 years old, Ubisoft cites technology that has become obsolete in order to justify these future decommissionings.

Ubisoft’s full statement in its latest ticket blog noted :

Decommissioning online services for older games is something we don’t take lightly, but it’s also a necessity as the technology behind these services becomes obsolete. Closing online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on providing great experiences for players playing newer or more popular titles.

If you are not yet a user, this means that you will no longer be able to play in multiplayer mode, link and synchronize your status with your Ubisoft account.

Please note that the offline features of these games will not be affected and will remain available, so you can continue to download them to enjoy their single-player mode.

Here is the list of 10 games for which online servers will be cut:

Assassin’s Creed II – Xbox 360Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – MACAssassin’s Creed Liberation HD – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360Assassin’s Creed Revelations – PCGhost Recon Future Soldier – PCHeroes of Might and Magic VI – PCNCIS – PC R.U.S.E – PCSplinter Cell : Conviction – Xbox 360Trials Evolution – PC

Looking at this list, we see that it is especially the first games in the Assassin’s Creed license that are strongly impacted by this decision. In the world of video games, this is unfortunately how things happen. Old games give way to new productions as this cycle repeats itself endlessly.

As a famous police inspector would roughly say, “They’re too old for this bullshit.”
