The current Carinthian regulation expires in 2024. The intention behind the proposed law is to make the shooting of “harsh wolves”, previously linked to a certain number of cunning farm animals, quicker. Practical experience has shown that it takes too long before intervention can be carried out on alpine pastures. “My plan is to only regulate the risk wolf through regulations, but to raise the removal of harmful wolves to the legal level,” said Gruber, according to a broadcast.
Shot down following the first attack
According to the new Alpine and Pasture Protection Act, it should be determined in advance on which alpine pastures herd protection measures cannot be implemented. These should then be designated as alpine conservation areas. “Extraction will be possible from the first attack,” says Gruber. The draft law will be reviewed shortly and will already apply to the 2024 alpine and pasture season. A regulation on the “risk wolf” is to come into force immediately following the current regulation expires.
