Xbox division achieves record quarter despite falling hardware sales

In the last fiscal quarter, Microsoft’s Xbox division generated revenue of $3.9 billion. The platform holder would never have achieved so much turnover in a quarter without holidays. Despite this result, sales of the console declined. The company attributes Xbox’s success to its Xbox Game Pass digital subscription service. And especially the release of Starfield, the exclusive game from Bethesda. According to Microsoft, there has never been such a significant increase in subscriptions since the release of this title. Revenue from content and services, which also includes Game Pass, increased by 13% compared to the same quarter of 2022.

However, Xbox console sales lag behind digital success. Microsoft recorded a 7 percent drop in sales. Although exact sales figures have not been announced, far fewer consoles have been sold. One reason for this, apart from continued digitalization within the gaming industry, might be linked to the 50 euro price increase that Microsoft implemented last quarter. Despite this decline, Microsoft managed to achieve approximately nine percent additional revenue within its games division.
