Uruguayan Brian Rodríguez undergoes surgery and will be out of action indefinitely, reports América

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Uruguayan forward Brian Rodríguez underwent surgery on his left knee on Tuesday and his time to return to the field is undetermined, reported América de México.

Rodríguez, who is selected for his country, suffered the injury last Saturday in a match once morest Monterrey for the 14th round of the Mexican Apertura tournament.

América announced the day before that the 23-year-old player suffered a dislocation of the kneecap following a collision with Jesús Gallardo.

On Tuesday the player underwent surgery by Dr. Rafael Ortega and his club said that the recovery time is undetermined.

Rodríguez is in his third tournament with América where he arrived last summer. In Apertura 2023 he had started 10 of 14 games and had four goals scored.

The Mexican tournament has only three dates remaining on its regular calendar.

Rodríguez declared at the end of the match once morest Rayados that the Mexican team’s full-back injured him intentionally.

Gallardo, Mexican World Cup player in Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022, apologized on his social networks and said that he never had the intention of hurting the player.
