Australia has withdrawn from the race to host the 2034 World Cup, leaving Saudi Arabia as the sole candidate for the event

Officially, it will not be until the end of next year that we will know the identity of the organizing countries of the 2030 World Cup and the 2034 World Cup. But the suspense is somewhat stale.

We already knew that everything was closed for 2030, an edition which will take place on three continents, mainly in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, and with three opening meetings in South America, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, to celebrate the centenary of the competition. But also for 2034, there is now only one candidacy (or “declaration of interest”according to the term used by Fifa): that of Saudi Arabia, since Australia withdrew.

Fifa has confirmed the candidacies of the countries mentioned above, and the procedure will continue. “As set out in the Bid Regulations approved by the Council, the FIFA administration will conduct comprehensive bidding and evaluation procedures for these 2030 and 2034 editions of the FIFA World Cup. The hosts will be designated at the FIFA Congresses which are expected to take place by the fourth quarter of 2024,” explains Fifa.

Unless its file is rejected, but this seems impossible given the means deployed, Saudi Arabia should therefore obtain its World Cup, and thus continue its breakthrough in the world of football.
