As rumors grow more and more numerous around the next GTA, a former Rockstar developer speaks out, with an opinion that goes once morest the grain of players’ demands.
While the gamer demands bigger and bigger games, this former Rockstar developer strongly disagrees with this opinion. To put things into context, Anthony Gowland now works for indie games company Ant Workshop Ltd. But in the past, he was a designer, then quickly a senior designer in charge of mission scripts and to make the city more alive on Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, i.e. the episodes for portable consoles. Recently, the latter gave an interview to the media PCGamesN during which the question of GTA 6 was addressed. Throughout the interview, one quote particularly stood out:
I wish the world size was a little bigger. But at the same time, I think a smaller but more densely populated location might allow for some of that memorable sailing that I loved in the original.
A little further on, the developer continues and discusses the game leaks in September 2021 which had a profound impact on the development of the game, but also the morale of his former colleagues:
The only footage I saw were just a few snippets of the leaked video, and I stopped watching right away. I thought it was really heartbreaking for the team to see all their work shown for the first time at that time.
What do we know for sure regarding GTA 6?
Despite the many rumors circulating lately, we remind you that at present, no official information regarding the next episode of Grand Theft Auto has been shared for Rockstar. For the moment, the studio has simply confirmed that it is working on a new game in the franchise, without specifying whether it was really GTA 6, or an episode with a subtitle as we saw with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. To console themselves and be patient, fans of the license can always turn around by playing GTA Online… released more than ten years ago today.
