History
HILO, Hawaii. – With the Golden Eagles having a long road trip ahead of them in Hawaii, the first game of the trip was once morest the University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcans.
Going into this game, the Golden Eagles were riding a two-game win streak, coming off of some fantastic play from both their offense and defense. In this game, in particular, the defense was fierce from both teams.
Retaining possession was almost impossible for the teams because of their physicality and defensive tenacity. In the entire first half, there were five combined shots from both teams, with three of those coming from the Golden Eagles.
The half ended in a tied score with no teams scoring following 45 minutes of physical and defensive play.
Coming out of the half, the Golden Eagles opened up the second half of play with much more emphasis on the offensive end. Players like Mikel Villareal and Anthony Morales became more aggressive for the Golden Eagles offense but with no result.
Having seven total shots on goal for the Golden Eagles in the second half was unfortunately not enough to penetrate the Vulcans defense. Eventually, the scoring barrier broke, and the Vulcans had the first goal of the game, coming in the 79th minute of play.
With that goal being scored, the Golden Eagles opened up the road trip with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to the Vulcans.
