Update (10/30/2023) – LR
Information released this Monday (30) suggests that Apple may use molded glass lenses in order to reduce the thickness and, consequently, the weight of the camera set. According to previous speculations, the Pro variant may come equipped with a 120mm telephoto lens improving the quality and approximation of captured images.
According to the Economic Daily News portal, parts suppliers for both the iPhone 16 and other variants are already preparing shipments for 2024. Apparently, the molded glass can also be used in the Pro Max model, while the entry-level and Plus should use the same configuration as the iPhone 15 Pro, launched this year by Apple.
These changes should make Apple’s future flagships lighter and thinner, but there is still no exact information regarding possible dimensions and weight. The rumor in question no longer has sources, so we do not know whether this speculation can actually come to fruition or whether it is still a mere unfounded rumor.
It is expected that new rumors will be released in the coming months — some of them by reliable informants, such as Ming-Chi Kuo, for example — pointing to the possible path that should be followed by the Cupertino giant.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max was recently launched with an exclusive telephoto lens capable of applying up to 5x optical zoom, but the iPhone 15 Pro ended up “falling behind”.
As we know, this is Apple’s new market strategy: making the best available only in the most expensive model.
Commenting on the matter, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that this should change in 2024, as the iPhone 16 Pro should hit the market equipped with the same tetraprism lens with 5x zoom.
In practice, both the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max should have the same zoom lens system.
Kuo also bets that Apple will not expand the capacity of the most expensive smartphone.
The analyst also said in his new post that the tetraprism sensor is largely responsible for the supply problems of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Therefore, in some countries the availability of the device was pushed to November this year.
Apple increased sensor specifications at the last minute and this caused supplier Largan to have production problems. Currently, the company is racing once morest time to meet demand.
For 2024, Apple is expected to hire more than one supplier for this lens, something that benefits the iPhone 16 Pro and makes the game more “balanced” between the Pro models.
As expected, Apple did not comment on the matter.
