The German Shani Louk has been missing for weeks. Hamas terrorists kidnapped the 22-year-old following the attack on a music festival. Now there is sad certainty, as the mother confirms: Shani Louk is dead. “Unfortunately we got the news yesterday that my daughter is no longer alive,” she told RTL. The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced on Monday on the online service X (formerly Twitter) that her body had been found and identified.

The family decided to make their daughter’s German citizenship public in the hope that German authorities might take action in the event of a hostage situation and possible prisoner exchange. The mother states that she is in contact with the embassy and the German Federal Criminal Police Office. Shani Louk never lived in Germany, explains her mother, but she visited the country several times to see her grandparents in Ravensburg.

Shani Louk’s mother was born in Ravensburg, Germany and emigrated to Israel thirty years ago. She originally comes from a Catholic family, but has since converted to Judaism. Her husband, Shani Louk’s father, is Israeli. The family has four children together, with Shani Louk being the second born.

When the 22-year-old was kidnapped by Hamas at the beginning of October, the images went around the world. In a video verified by CNN, she is seen unconscious. It is paraded by armed terrorists in Gaza. A man pulls her hair while another spits on her bleeding head from outside. The men shout “Allahu Akbar,” which means “Allah is great.” The jeep then speeds away. (jar/fur)
