The Los Angeles County medical examiner determined the star’s death, which occurred in November 2022, was accidental, saying he drowned in his bathtub following inhaling difluoroethane gas and taking alprazolam pills. His ex-fiancée, Melanie Martin, expressed skepticism regarding the findings and has now filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of their 23-month-old son, Princeton Lyrik Carter.

According to TMZ.com, the lawsuit alleges that doctors prescribed hydrocodone, oxycodone and alprazolam without medical justification, knowing of his “mental health and psychiatric condition.” In 2019, Aaron Carter revealed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He had also begun treatment for his drug addiction.

The filed complaint names the Walgreens pharmacy chain among the defendants, saying the drugs and their quantities should have prompted staff to act. Melanie Martin, on behalf of their son, is seeking damages in an unspecified amount.
