As part of the JUUN project, an exchange between youth and politics takes place in the Albert Hall.
Vienna (OTS) – What inequalities do young people particularly feel in the realities of their lives and what role do young people play in overcoming global inequalities? The JUUN project, which the Federal Youth Representative Council (BJV) launched in 2023 together with the team of special youth representatives of the African Union, deals with these questions.
JUUN stands for: strengthening youth participation and reducing inequalities. “The key challenges we face as young people today can only be solved through collaboration on a global level,” explains BJV chairwoman Rihab Toumi. It is crucial to involve children and young people in developing solutions. The BJV advocates for more youth participation at all political levels.
“More than half of the world’s population is under 30 years old. But the voice of this age group is significantly underrepresented,” emphasizes Toumi. The JUUN project therefore focuses on young people and deals with global inequalities and participation.
As part of the project, which is funded by Austrian Development Cooperation, there are workshops, consultations, international exchange and dialogue events.
Dialogue conference in Vienna
A highlight is a large dialogue conference in November in Vienna, in which a delegation of youth representatives from the African Union also takes part. The delegation is on a study visit to Vienna for a week.
In addition to the exchange, the focus of the dialogue conference is on developing political recommendations, which are discussed with local political representatives. In addition, they are carried by participants from different countries to political conferences at the international level. The “Youth Proposals”, for example, will be presented by the UN youth delegate from Austria, Jana Berchthold, at the next UN General Assembly in New York.
