LH Mikl-Leitner: Digital platform offers useful assistance in community life

St. Pölten (OTS) LENIE stands for “Life in Lower Austria” and is a free application to digitally support village and community life. The idea was developed by citizens. The goal is to strengthen the connection of the population in active community life. The aim is to promote interaction and information among the population around the center of their lives.

The prototype was tested and further developed over several months in five pilot communities – Herrnbaumgarten, Hirschbach, Kirchberg an der Pielach, Maria Enzersdorf and Waidhofen an der Ybbs. Now gemdat Lower Austria is adopting this prototype and will integrate it into the community app gem2go.

“After a successful test phase, we are taking this flagship project to the next level. From autumn 2023, the source code will be available free of charge to interested communities and companies. The platform can offer communities a lot of useful assistance. In the pilot communities, for example, neighborhood help was organized, reading mentors were sought for elementary school children and courses and events were organized,” said State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Gemdat Lower Austria is the first company to use this platform. “LENIE is the perfect complement to our GEM2GO app, with which we can now directly reach registered citizens in 365 Lower Austrian municipalities. Over 13 million app accesses in 2023 show what reach the GEM2GO app now has in Lower Austria. We hope that with the functionality of LENIE we will be able to make our range of services even more attractive for the communities in the medium term and thus be able to contribute our part to a functioning social life,” explains Gemdat Lower Austria Managing Director Leopold Kitir.

LENIE is intended to become the central platform for networking within communities and thus make the added value of community life easier, tangible and quickly accessible. The interactive tool was developed and tested in collaboration with communities in a so-called co-creation process. In addition, citizens have been involved in this project since its inception as part of innovation processes.
