A young woman from Mainland China poisoned her boyfriend’s wine glass due to an argument during their relationship, causing his death. During her 27-year escape, she was displaced, frightened, and even dared not see the name of her hometown on TV. On October 22 this year, as the 53-year-old fugitive murderer Li returned from Lijiang, Yunnan to Pingxiang, Jiangxi under the escort of the police handling the case, a 27-year pursuit finally came to an end.

In 1995, 25-year-old Li met a man surnamed Liu and soon developed a relationship. As the time they spent together became longer and longer, the number of quarrels between the two became more and more frequent. On May 19 of the following year, during a fierce quarrel, Li poisoned Liu’s wine glass and hurriedly sent him to the hospital when he became unwell. After learning that her boyfriend died following unsuccessful treatment, Li immediately disappeared from the world and cut off all contact with her relatives and friends.

After the incident, the young girl Li began to wander. Since she did not have an ID card, she had to take a private car to travel. She lived wherever the car took her. If she had some money, she would change places, such as under bridges or at stations. Lived in all places. In order to survive, Ms. Li once voluntarily joined a MLM organization because she might guarantee food and accommodation. However, she was often beaten due to lack of performance and was even beaten to deafness in her right ear. She was kicked out by the MLM organization six months later.

At the time of the incident, due to various limitations such as investigation conditions and technical strength, the pursuit of the fugitive was like looking for a needle in a haystack and reached a deadlock. Miss Li, who has been unable to be arrested and brought to justice, is like a thorn deeply pierced into the hearts of the police officers handling the case. Amid the personnel changes, the Anyuan Branch of the Pingxiang City Public Security Bureau never stopped hunting Ms. Li. Huangtian paid off. In October this year, the local public security agency sent a clue to the Anyuan Interpol, pointing out that there was an unidentified woman in Lijiang, Yunnan, whose facial features were similar to those of Li.

Because the public security organs only have photos of Li when she was young, her appearance has changed a lot in the past 27 years. Even though the similarity was not high, the police handling the case rushed to Lijiang non-stop. With the strong support of the local public security organs and through visits and investigations, Ms. Li, who was hiding in a remote village, was finally captured. Li has been away from her hometown for decades, and her local accent has long since changed. But when she heard the police call her nickname with the local accent, she immediately felt a strong sense of homesickness in her eyes.

“No one can understand my complicated feelings. I miss home, but I’m afraid to go home. I usually avoid the word “Pingxiang” when I see it on TV. Now, I don’t have to be afraid anymore. I don’t want to live like this anymore.” After arriving at the case, Ms. Li confessed to the crime of intentional homicide 27 years ago. Currently, Ms. Li has been criminally detained by the Anyuan Public Security Bureau in accordance with the law, and the case is under further investigation.
