Chengannur: RJD staged a dharna demanding that the Veliyathupadi-Maikakara road be made passable. It has been more than 15 years since the road passing through five and six wards of Pandanad Gram Panchayat was damaged and even pedestrians might not travel. If it rains, the road will turn into a ravine.
Water and mud accumulates and stinks. There is also a high risk of infectious diseases. On both sides of the road, jungle and undergrowth have grown and spread to the road, and the nuisance of reptiles is severe.
The dharna was organized jointly by activists and locals demanding that the road be immediately passable. The locals demanded that the road should be raised and tarred and paved with tiles on the sides to make it accessible and a special system should be built to drain the rainwater that reaches the road.
It was inaugurated by State Secretary Girish Elanjimel. He said that he would give a letter to Minister Sajicherian and the Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee requesting that the road be repaired immediately. Manu.B.Pilla presided. R. Prasannan, A.C.
