In the midst of inflation, fans of films and series would have done without it. SVoD (video on demand service) platforms have had a heavy hand on prices. From November 1, the Disney + Premium offer will increase from 8.99 euros to 11.99 euros, a voucher of 33%, well above inflation (+ 5.6% over one year in September ). Apple, for its part, has just increased its Apple TV + subscription from 6.99 to 9.99 euros per month: + 43%!

Before them, the other most prominent streaming services, such as Netflix or Amazon, had significantly increased their subscriptions. At Netflix, which broadcasts for example the successful series “Arsène Lupin” or “Sex Education”, only the offer including screens before and during the broadcast of the content remained stable at 5.99 euros. All the others recorded increases, like the Premium contract (19.99 euros per month compared to 17.99 euros previously, + 11%). A pricing policy which completes a strategy started last spring with the abandonment of account sharing for people outside the household. From now on, to share your subscription beyond the family circle, you have to pay an additional 6 euros.

VIDEO. How much will your Netflix subscription cost following increase?

The e-commerce giant Amazon is not left out. The monthly cost of the Prime subscription, which allows you to have access at the same time to Prime Video (“Rings of Power”, “The Last of Us”) as well as a whole range of ancillary services (fast delivery and free, flash sales, data storage, etc.) has increased by one euro (6.99 euros) each month. At this price, Amazon offers the best price on the market.

Little tip: if you opt for an annual subscription with Amazon or Disney + – the only two to offer this possibility – you will significantly reduce the final cost with the equivalent of two fewer monthly payments. Netflix has not chosen an annual rate but allows effective termination from the following month.

Therefore, which SVoD platform should you turn to among the market behemoths? And for what offer? At the same time, is it possible to reduce the expenses of these subscriptions, which weigh more and more heavily on family budgets? 65% of them now subscribe to at least one video streaming platform, according to a study by BearingPoint. French households spend on average 42 euros per month compared to 37 euros the previous year.

Above all, many combine subscriptions, since half (55%) of Netflix customers are also with Prime Video, and 36% with Disney +. For them, integrated offers can be financially interesting. Two solutions in these cases: turn to your Internet service provider or to Canal +. For 27.99 euros per month, the lowest price charged by the encrypted channel, it is possible to have access to the seven Canal channels, streaming with the MyCanal application, as well as Apple TV +. The first year of subscription, the price even drops to 22.29 euros per month. If you want to integrate Disney +, Paramount + and OCS into your standard Netflix bouquet, the bill rises to 45.99 euros per month. Here once more, a promotion brings the bill down the first year to 34.99 euros.

As for Internet providers, the best offer at the moment is offered by Free. For 39.99 euros for the first year, the Freebox Delta, the latest in the operator’s premium boxes, includes cumulative access to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video at no additional cost.

To reduce the cost, you should not hesitate to look at offers with . “At 5.99 euros per month, the Netflix package with (2 simultaneous streams) costs 2 euros less than the Essential package (1 stream) in 2014, when the platform arrived in France, notes Philippe Bailly, founder of NPA Conseil. And on November 1, Disney will market its own offer with at an identical price, i.e. 1 euro less than the 6.99 euros billed monthly in April 2020, when the service was launched. » Amazon, which is testing the option in the United States, should extend the experience to France in 2024 without increasing its price of 6.99 euros.

Finally, if you are a student, some platforms have aggressive pricing policies. To benefit from this, you will of course have to present proof. The Amazon Prime subscription drops to 3.49 euros per month (Prime Student) for an annual cost of 34.90 euros compared to 69.90 euros for a normal rate. At Apple, students who already subscribe to Apple Music can access for free to Apple TV+.
