The 95-year-old was politically active until recently
Vienna (PK) – Helmut Kritzinger, member of the Federal Council from 2002 to 2008, died yesterday, Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the age of 95. The Tyrolean ÖVP politician was President of the Federal Council in the first half of 2008.
“Helmut Kritzinger was politically active for Austria until the very end,” said National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka on Sunday. “He was particularly committed to the concerns of South Tyrol and the concerns of senior citizens. My deepest condolences go out to his surviving relatives in these difficult hours.”
Helmut Kritzinger, Born on August 15, 1928 in Sarnthein in South Tyrol, attended teacher training college following graduating from high school and was a primary school teacher from 1953 to 1958. He then became a journalist and was most recently secretary in the social sector of the Tyrolean Senior Citizens’ Association. He was politically active from 1953, including as chairman of the South Tyrolean People’s Party in the Sarntal. He became a member of the local council in Innsbruck in 1983 and remained so until 2018. From 1972 he was district chairman of the Innsbruck Senior Citizens’ Association and from 1997 to 2019 he was state chairman of the Tyrolean Senior Citizens’ Association.
Helmut Kritzinger was, among other things, the recipient of the Golden Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria and the Cross of Merit of the State of Tyrol. (End) red
