Lawyer Claudia Van Der Stichelen, aged 58, and her son, 22, were targeted by a shooter this Saturday early in the followingnoon, in Hautem-Saint-Liévin, in East Flanders. The events occurred in the immediate vicinity of the Flammee – Van Der Stichelen law firm.
“This followingnoon, a man killed a lawyer and injured her son. He is fine now, he is in a clinic for an operation. Unfortunately, our lawyer who we knew well here died“, reacted Mayor Tim De Knyf to our microphone.
The perpetrator of the shooting is still missing, as confirmed by the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office. “NOTWe are searching with all our might for the perpetrator of the shooting.“, indicates the press magistrate of the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office. According to witnesses interviewed by our colleagues at HLN, it was a man dressed in a gray overall and a backpack who allegedly committed the act.

“The author has not yet been identified. It is true that a weapon was found at the scene of the shooting, but further investigation will have to determine whether it belongs to the perpetrator. It is therefore possible that the attacker is still armed. We assume there is a connection to a lawyer’s file. But we’re not sure“, declared prosecutor Caroline Verschuere to the VTM channel.
An investigating judge was appointed. It is not yet clear what the perpetrator’s motive is.
