The Wallonia Picardy emergency services were alerted on Saturday, around 2:05 a.m., that a traffic accident had occurred along Boulevard Léopold in Tournai. An extrication vehicle, a marking truck, a Smur, two ambulances and a command vehicle were dispatched to the scene.
The accident occurred along the ring road, towards the Europe roundregarding. For a reason still unknown, the driver of a car registered in Belgium lost control of his vehicle. After swerving, the car ended up hitting one of the trees along the boulevard.
”The driver and his passenger, two young people, had to be extricated. The driver is in critical condition,” explains Lieutenant Philippe Verhaege who led the intervention. After being stabilized by emergency workers, the motorist was transferred to the emergency department of the Union du ChWapi center in Tournai. The passenger, who was in the back of the car, was slightly injured and hospitalized.
