Australian baby Ryan Lines went into septic shock regarding a year ago when he was 13 months old due to a Group A strep infection. Over the next four months, he underwent multiple amputations of his lower leg, multiple fingers, and all of his fingertips due to severe blood clots that caused tissue in his hands and lower legs to die from lack of nutrients.

His parents shared this incident in the hope that other parents can be more vigilant. They mentioned that before Ryan was admitted to the hospital, his symptoms did not seem to be serious. They thought he had a simple runny nose and sore throat and thought it was just a minor cold. Unexpectedly, it would lead to such a serious situation.
On the day of the incident, Ryan started to have a runny nose when he got up in the morning. However, he developed a fever in the followingnoon, lost his previous energy, was unwilling to walk, and urinated less frequently. His parents immediately took Ryan to the hospital. The doctor told him that he was teething or infected with a virus. But the next day, things got worse and worse, and Ryan seemed too weak.
The examination results showed that Ryan was infected with Group A Streptococcus, which caused sepsis and even experienced cardiac arrest for 10 minutes.
Thought it was a minor cold, but it turned out to be septicemia
Sepsis can be caused by any infection, and the symptoms can be similar to any other infection, so it’s important to be aware of when symptoms become more severe. When this happens to young children, the situation will be even more difficult, because they cannot express their feelings clearly in words, and can only be prevented by careful observation by parents.
Baby Ryan gradually recovered following fighting the disease for ten months, but the amputation had a lifelong impact on him. His mother said that Ryan, who is almost two years old, sometimes feels frustrated. Fortunately, in general, he adapts well. When he fully recovers his strength, he will consider installing a prosthetic limb.

The following video was shared by Ruian’s mother. The condition of his treatment in the hospital is really heartbreaking. I pray that Ruian will be healthy in the future, and also remind parents not to ignore any abnormalities in their children’s bodies.
