A current update for Windows is causing crashes and poorer performance for many users. A fix from Microsoft is still pending.

The October patch is the latest security update for Windows 11 22H2 and actually brings a number of improvements, including integrating websites into the Recommended Websites section of the Start menu.

Like the online magazine “Windows Latest” reports, however, a number of previously unknown problems have occurred since the update was released on October 10th. Although Microsoft has stated in the official Release Notes announced that no such problems were known, this is not the case: the magazine was able to independently reproduce the problems reported by users.

According to available information, a bug in Windows 11 October Update is causing games like Starfield and others to crash with error code 0x89245106. This particular error code indicates that there is a problem with the standard user account or that no standard user is currently selected. The most common situation reported by those affected is a delayed start with a sudden crash as a result.

A similar problem has also been observed in Windows Explorer since the update. Here, users also report unexpected crashes that occur without any error messages. Additionally, Explorer’s performance appears to be affected following the update, as many users feel that performance has noticeably slowed down.
