Hugues Lacombe, president of the Charlevoix Astronomy Club, will give a conference, “The Big Bang and the Destiny of the Universe,” on November 8 at the Laure-Conan Library in La Malbaie.

“The Universe is 13.8 billion years old. What happened at the very beginning? How were stars and galaxies formed? And how was matter gradually organized to allow the emergence of life as we know it? », questions Mr. Lacombe in the preamble.

The amateur but seasoned astronomer says we have a pretty good idea of “how” things happened in the beginning. “Modern physics can explain the sequence of events. But many mysteries remain. The Universe is also expanding and expanding faster and faster, driven by a “dark energy” regarding which we know nothing. What does the future hold for us? »

This conference will trace the evolution of the Universe over the ages and outline the great mysteries it conceals. It is offered free of charge by the Laure-Conan Library and the Charlevoix Astronomy Club, and begins at 7 p.m.
