A dialogue project for a better Vienna

Vienna (OTS) The project started a year ago “Community Communicators” the department Integration and diversity the city of Vienna. Before that, there were two calls for all Viennese to get involved in good coexistence in the city. Since then, almost 170 people have come forward to ensure an exchange between the city and different immigrant groups.

“I would like to thank all community communicators. This initiative is a small piece of the puzzle in the big picture of integration. Your voluntary work is an important part of common life in the city. Further training and exchange are the focus here, as well also the transmission of values. Over time, the community communicators also become an important link between the city and the communities. Once once more, thank you to the community communicators for their valuable work!”says Integration City Councilor and Deputy Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr.

80 events, countless encounters

Since the project started in October 2022, the community communicators, together with employees of the City of Vienna’s Integration and Diversity Department, have organized almost 80 events, including in the languages ​​Turkish (for example: developmental psychology in children), Arabic (health care for expectant mothers) , Romanian (Romanian Women in Business) and Farsi (employee assessment). Depending on the needs of the communities, further lectures, workshops or exchange meetings on specific topics were initiated.

Delvina Marta De França Publić organized eleven workshops in German and Portuguese for the Brazilian community in Vienna last year: “There is a great need for exchange and information. It is very important for people to get reliable information. This makes cooperation with the city of Vienna possible.”

Support and networking

The City of Vienna offers tailor-made training events for community communicators. Themes like Democracy, human rights, anti-discrimination but also Clubs, event management and Event knowledge are covered. There are also regular networking cafés for exchange between the community communicators and the employees of the City of Vienna. Voluntary participation in internship days in the City of Vienna’s Integration and Diversity Department (MA 17) is also possible.

“I learned a lot regarding the city last year – at training events but also during my internship. This gave me a look from the inside. I would like to share this knowledge and experiences with the Greek community in Vienna. Anyone who knows regarding rights and obligations and how the city works can quickly orientate themselves and feel comfortable.”says community communicator Konstantinos Apostolopoulos. The “Community Communicators” project will continue and planning for the next events is already underway.
