PORTLAND, Oregon, USA (AP) — Franz Wagner scored 23 points and the Orlando Magic achieved their second consecutive victory at the start of the season, beating the Portland Trail Blazers 102-97 on Friday.

Cole Anthony contributed 18 points off the bench for the Magic, who played the first of four games on a western trip.

Shaedon Sharpe, who started in place of the injured Anfernee Simmons, scored 24 points for the Blazers. Simmons was injured in the opening game in Portland and will miss up to six weeks of activity.

Portland trailed 82-80 heading into the fourth quarter following a dunk by Moritz Wagner for Orlando. The Magic extended the lead to 97-84, following a triple by Franz Wagner.

However, the Blazers pulled within 99-93 with 1:33 left.

After Franz Wagner made one of two free throws, Deandre Ayton drove the ball toward the rim to make the difference at five points. Portland mightn’t get any closer.
