A fisherman who went missing near Westport, Washington, near the U.S. border with Canada, has been found safe following 13 days spent alone at sea on a life raft.

John and Ryan Planes were on a boat going fishing when they saw a boat in the distance, reports CNN.

“I saw what looked like a raft in the distance and then I ran to get my binoculars and then it launched a flare,” said John Planes.

The man in question, whose identity has not been released, had been missing for several days and said he had been offshore for 13 days without food or water.

“We brought him on board and gave him a hug, then we started crying,” he adds. It was a really emotional moment.”

The two men made him lunch.

“He ate a few sandwiches, he was starving, poor guy,” shares John Planes’ nephew, Ryan Planes.

The Canadian Coast Guard finally joined their boat to transport the man to hospital, where his life is not feared.

The U.S. Coast Guard had begun a search for the fisherman who was part of a group of two people missing, but eventually abandoned them.

The other man in this pair is still missing.
